About the atlas

Scope: 193 United Nations member states and two UN observer states (the Holy See and the State of Palestine). “Key cities” is a short editorial selection, generally including the capital and other major urban centres. Small states may have only one listed city. Capital descriptions note split roles where useful.

Country names, flags, capitals and base currencies: mledoze/countries. City data: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), with editorial corrections. Scope: United Nations. Recent corrections: Equatorial Guinea’s capital and Zimbabwe’s currency. Compiled September 2026; geography and currency details may change.

Official languages describe national or federal legal status. Religion shows official status where designated; otherwise it shows the largest population affiliation, including unaffiliated people. Population estimates use Pew Research Center’s 2020 dataset and 2023 religious freedom reports for eight small states outside that dataset. A largest group is not necessarily a majority. References are retained in the repository. Continent colors are an atlas key inspired by the five Olympic colors.
